Beginner Piano Lessons

By Andrew Benford

You might think that beginner piano lessons are not as important as the intermediate or advanced piano lessons but they actually are. Although later piano lessons are the ones that will put your knowledge to the test, beginner piano lessons are your foundation to learning to play the piano.

All the piano basics will be taught in beginner piano lessons. You will learn how to read notes, rhythm basics, count, pedal, place your hands on the right keys, play with hands alone and play with hands to hands together. Patience will play a big role in this tedious and time consuming process of learning how to play the piano.

Learning the first step is usually the harder part, just like any other skills. Since you are still unfamiliar with how things work, you need to exert extra effort. But you'll see yourself take pleasure while learning as soon as you get the hang of it. Having fun while learning is important, you might not want to push through with the learning process if you are bored with it.

It is best to take beginner piano lessons at your most convenient time. You should make the best out of your piano classes. Don't forget to allot time for practice. You have to remember that putting your knowledge to the test by practicing will help you learn successfully. Practice is very necessary, it keeps you in the know. Dedication and regular practice can help you reach the next level faster.

Beginner piano lessons are being offered by piano teachers. You can take piano lessons the conventional way by hiring a professional instructor or you can try the piano lessons available online. Choose whatever suits your schedule. Sometimes it is harder to find a piano teacher who will be able to adjust to your schedule and it is a fact that they charge an expensive fee. So an online piano lesson might be more advantageous to some people.

Weigh things out. If you feel like you'll learn faster with an actual piano instructor by your side and you have the budget to pay for it, then go for it. But if you feel like you can do it by yourself and you can follow online instructions, then get a piano course online. Whatever kind of beginner piano lessons you'll end up with, make sure that you will be getting maximum results and your money's worth. - 31814

By Michelle Edward

One piano player who crosses many genres is Jim Brickman, who often plays his own compositions. Along with smooth jazz stations, Brickman's music is played on pop, inspirational, and new age stations.

Granted, maybe you're more into the "rocker" type keyboard players which we know you know a few names here. How about Rick Wakeman from Yes or Tony Banks from Genesis? Then of course you have Dennis De Young who played for Styx and David Sancious who was able to enjoy the company of Bruce Springteen, Santana and Sting. Yes, there are also the rock piano players that we all know like Elton John, Billy Joel, Carole King, Paul McCartney, and even Carly Simon.

Often times we come across those who don't really like classical music. Its okay, when you're just listening there are several individuals who don't, but when you actually play a rendition of Bach, Beethoven, Mendelssohn, Schubert or Brahms, you will definitely change your mind.

If you are like many people who hear these great musical works of art, you will want to emulate them. You may learn well enough to play for a band or as a solo act if you are dedicated enough. You can certainly learn to play the piano well enough to entertain yourself, your friends, and your family.

Oh and let's not forget about the stress reliever. There is nothing like coming home from a frustrating day at working, dropping your bag, and then head to the piano so you can knock some sense into each key. The funny thing is once you play the music it brings forth a natural relaxation. It's also a great way to change your mood into a more cheerful one.

It's possible though that this could become a secondary or even primary income for you. The main reason anyone should learn to play the piano is for their own fulfillment. No matter what that means to you, you will be happy when you have strive to reach your full potential. You will feel joy when you play a composition well. You will be a happier person for letting music into your life. - 31814

Looking at the Piano

By Michelle Edward

Even though most people want to jump right on the piano, it's important to know the instrument first. There are various forms of pianos out there that can range from large, heavy, or even tall vertical upright pianos. They hit somewhere around 36-51 inches tall. If you want one on the shorter side then the Spinets are around 36-39 inches. If you're looking for a studio vertical piano, then you need something 44 inches or more.

Then again you may get the chance to play on a grand piano, which of course usually sounds better. These are considered more horizontal pianos that are around 5-9 feet in length. You will also see that the strings are horizontal as well. If you look at a vertical piano the stings are set up in a vertical position.

When you sit on your stool, there will be a music rack that allows you to place your sheet music on it. There are various styles that range from ones that fold down or possibly slide into a slot. When it's time to play just place your sheet music there. Obviously you will be sitting on some sort of bench that allows you to reach the keys at any part of the piano. Be careful though, if you sit too far or too close, you might not be able to reach them all.

There will be pedals at the bottom of the piano where your feet are. These need not be used by beginners. Once you become more proficient at playing the piano, you can learn how to use these pedals to sustain sounds or cut them short.

The part of the piano that will be most important to your learning is the keyboard. It is made up of white and black keys which run from the left to the right of the piano face. These keys do not alternate white-black-white for the entire length of the keyboard.

Seriously take a look at them. There is a consistent pattern where there are 7 white keys and 5 black keys. An interval can be performed at the beginning of one set and ending on the beginning of the next set. This is the musical distance between 2 sounds that are better known as an octave.

The keys are lined up on the keyboard in order from the lowest on the left to the highest on the right. Starting at the left and moving to the right, each black or white key is a half step higher in pitch than the key before it. For a full step, it is necessary to go up (or down) two half steps. Try some half steps and some full steps. With a little practice, you should be able to learn the sound of those intervals easily.

It's recommended that you try other intervals just to hear different sounds. Take a look at the amount of half or full steps you might be taking. Basically just pick out a key and play the next key up in the same position. Eventually you will be able to play those octaves with no problems at all. Remember, this is one of the keys to piano playing.

If you can get a better understanding for the piano in the beginning, it will be much easier to learn how to make music. In a short amount of time you will see yourself being able to play simple songs. All it takes is a little effort and drive on your part to make it all happen. - 31814

Piano Improvisation Lessons - 3 Steps to Master Basic Improvisation Techniques

By Jess Kasey

This article discusses piano improvisation lessons and 3 ways to master the techniques of improvisation and how to get the most out of your lessons. No matter what kind of lessons you take or how often, the three ways discussed below will help you learn how to improvise and usually a lot faster than you might think.

1. Practice: You aren't going to improve without practice, but a lot of people think they can get by without it. Learning improvisation is no different than learning other skills like reading or playing a piece of music.

The magic of practice however that most people don't even notice is that if you put forth the effort to do so, improvement and skill happen when you aren't even looking. Each day that you sit down at the piano and practice something new brings you closer and closer to the day that you realize you can suddenly do something that once seemed impossible.

2. Small Sections: If you are going to learn how to speak a new language, you break it into smaller sections, you can't possibly learn to speak French by tackling the entire dictionary. The same applies to learning an instrument, reading or even improvisation. Smaller pieces are easier for your brain and fingers to grasp.

One of the best ways of learning a new aspect of improvisation is to focus on one improvisation method at a time. Once you have tackled a method and can do it without even thinking, then you can move on to something new.

3. Repetition: Want to learn something and learn it fast? Repeat it over and over again. This is monotonous and most people don't want to take the time to do it, but it can make all the difference. Repeating something naturally will embed it into your brain and your fingers and you usually don't even notice that it is happening.

Your goal should be having the piece you're playing be as natural as breathing to your fingers. If you repeat something enough times, pretty soon you should be able to play it in your sleep; that is when you know it is time to move on to the next section.

This article looked at piano improvisation lessons and how to get the most out of your time. The best 3 ways discussed above will allow you to master the techniques of improvising. Practicing, breaking things up into smaller pieces and repetition, will allow you to take your music to the next level. Focus on these three things and implement what you are learning; improvising will start to be second nature to you.
